Arne
Jacobsen (yak-ob-son) was one of the very few creators of the modern
movement who etched his name on both the history of architecture and
design. His attention to detail in his buildings, furniture, lighting
and landscaping has been admired by many. It was during the building
of the Royal Hotel, Copenhagen (1956-61) - widely recognised as one
of Jacobsen's major works - that he designed a significant amount of
furniture, lamps, textiles, cutlery and tableware. Amongst these unique
objects of detail, all of which are signatured by his use of the double
curvature theme, the AJ Handle was developed. The inspiration of organic
forms resulted in the handle fitting the hand with simplistic ease.
